About Tai Chi

Dr. Strasser discusses the Tai Chi class:

“ Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese yoga and martial art which was intended to integrate body, mind and spirit. In our class, Tai Chi is intended to promote health, relaxation, mental focus and an inner sense of well-being.

Tai Chi is a series of slow, standing movements which merge in a dance-like flow. The postures were derived from elements in nature, as well as from animal and bird forms.

It has been said that we are innately familiar with these movements and, through practice, we can “allow them to flow harmoniously from within”.

In the Tai Chi Beginners and Intermediate Class we will be learning an abbreviated “Yang” form of Tai Chi called the “Short Form”. This form combines easy exercise and dance into a gentle martial art. 24 sequential postures build one upon the other in a blueprint of 10 lessons.

Since the essence of Tai Chi is encapsulated in each lesson, the series can be broken down into smaller components.

Maximum benefit is derived through lessons and regular practice outside of class. As one of my teachers Carolyn Talmidge put it: “ The many physical, emotional and mental benefits of Tai Chi evolve slowly but surely. Tai Chi is moving meditation. Tai Chi, additionally, is a form of play!”

There are many benefits from practicing Tai Chi. In my chiropractic practice I regularly suggest Tai Chi to my patients.

Here are a list of the benefits of Tai Chi found in modern Tai Chi writings:
